Riot Games has announced that the 2022 Wild Rift Icons Global Championship will take place at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Center from June 14 to July 9.
Wild Rift Icons will be the crowning event for the 2022 esports season of the mobile MOBA game and is the game's most prestigious worldwide tournament.
Wild Rift Icons will pit 24 of the top Wild Rift teams from China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Japan, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), North America, Latin America, and Brazil, competing for a share of the USD 2 million prize pool.
The schedule for the Wild Rift Icons 2022 is as follows:
- Play-Ins: June 14 to 18
- Groups: June 21 to 25
- Quarterfinals: July 1 to 2
- Semifinals: July 5 to 6
- Grand Finals: July 9
The three stages of Icons Global Championship 2022 comprise Play-Ins, Group Stage, and Knockout Stage. The eight regional champions will have direct entry into the Group Stage, while the 16 runners-up will begin in the Play-Ins.
The China and Southeast Asia regions will field four teams each in Wild Rift Icons. Meanwhile, EMEA, Latin America, South Korea, and Brazil will send three teams each. Japan and North America will each have two delegates.
Wild Rift Icons was first slated to take place in Europe when the tournament was first announced.
However, Riot Games chose to transfer the event to Singapore because the COVID-19 outbreak is "complicating visa application timelines and re-entry dates for many regional teams."
Riot said it would reveal more details, such as fan experiences, the qualified teams, format, and schedule, in the coming weeks and months.
